Exploring your Catholic Faith and Culture

This is a short parish based course on exploring your Catholic Faith and Culture over Spring 2018.

It consists of 10 Monday evening sessions from 7.30 pm to approx. 9 pm in (a Fingal area) parish centre, providing contextual, exploratory and interview based videos on our Catholic faith and Catholic culture. It starts on Monday February 5th  until end April / start May. Each evening will generally comprise of a series of 3 videos, each video approx. 25 minutes long.

These videos are primarily EWTN based, meaning that they are of high quality and well presented by some of the best experts in the English speaking world in the particular topics. These include personalities such as Fr. Robert Spitzer SJ, Bishop Robert Barron, Prof. Scott Hahn, Dr. Edward Sri, Fr. Andrew Apostoli, Fr. George Rutler, Fr. Mitch Pacwa, Fr. John Hogan, Matthew Kelly and a host of other presenters.  The sessions focus on the core aspects of a topic, in order to guide one in an authentic and orthodox direction for more detailed study & understanding of our Catholic Faith and Culture. Attendees are encouraged to suggest specific topics of interest to be covered in the course, where possible, and participate in discussion where time permits.

The first series, focusing on our Catholic Faith / Reflection, presents videos that clarify the nature and details of our faith. This particular series will focus on the Work of the Holy Spirit in the Church presented by Fr. Apostoli, founding member of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal and videos on “Reasons to Believe (our catholic faith)” presented by Prof. Scott Hahn, a preeminent biblical scholar.

The second series, focusing on Our Lady, Saints & Key People in Catholicism, presents videos regarding key personalities in Catholicism that inspire us. This includes Our Lady, and the increasing role She has played in the life of the church over the past 200 years or so. It also includes videos on St. Teresa of Avila (prayer), and on some key Catholic authors, such as JRR Tolkien, who wrote “Lord of the Rings”.

The third series, focusing on Catholic Family, Culture & Society, presents videos that addresses key issues on living our faith in the world and how that is manifested through catholic social teaching, natural law, the catholic family, current social issues such as the 8th amendment , interaction with business, economics, psychology, the arts and other areas, how to evangelise, and other areas of interest. Depending on availability, particular videos can be selected by the audience. It  will kick off with a video on GK Chesterton.

 

On week 1, the topics will include:

The first series, focusing on our Catholic Faith / Reflection, presents videos that clarify the nature and details of our faith. The first video will give the context to the “Reasons to Believe” video series presented by Prof. Scott Hahn, a preeminent biblical scholar.

The second series, focusing on Our Lady, Saints & Key People in Catholicism, presents videos regarding key personalities in Catholicism that inspire us. The first video will be on our Lady of Guadeloupe whose appearances to a peasant farmer caused millions to convert to the Catholic faith.

The third series, focusing on Catholic Family, Culture & Society, presents videos that addresses key issues on living our faith in the world. The first video will be one on / by! GK Chesterton.

On week 2, the topics will include:

The Catholic Faith / Reflection  videos clarify the nature and details of our faith. The video this week will focus on the Work of the Holy Spirit in the Church presented by Fr. Apostoli, founding member of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal.

The Our Lady, Saints & Key People in Catholicism videos present key personalities in Catholicism that inspire us. The video this week will be on Saints from the Eastern / Russian orthodox church presented by Vaticano, the EWTN office in the Vatican.

The Catholic Family, Culture & Society videos address key issues on living our faith in the world. The video this week will be on Respect for Life by Cardinal Wuerl of Washington DC.

On week 3, the topics will include:

The Catholic Faith / Reflection  videos clarify the nature and details of our faith. The video this week will focus on the Reasons to Believe series, specifically on God’s existence, presented by Scott Hahn, a preeminent biblical scholar.

The Our Lady, Saints & Key People in Catholicism videos present key personalities in Catholicism that inspire us. The video this week will be on JRR Tolkien, who wrote Lord of the Rings, voted the best book of the 20th century,  which presents many Catholic themes as an integral part of the book.

The Catholic Family, Culture & Society videos address key issues on living our faith in the world. The video this week will be on GK Chesterton on Philosophy.

On week 4, the topics will include:

The Catholic Faith / Reflection  videos clarify the nature and details of our faith. The video this week will focus on the Work of the Holy Spirit in the Church and how this was revealed over time, presented by Fr. Apostoli, founding member of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal.

The Our Lady, Saints & Key People in Catholicism videos present key personalities in Catholicism that inspire us. The video this week will be on Saint Charles of Mount Argus here in Dublin.

The Catholic Family, Culture & Society videos address key issues on living our faith in the world. The video this week will be on the Natural Law and how this impacts on the right to life.

On week 5, the topics will include:

The Catholic Faith / Reflection  videos this week will be by Prof. Scott Hahn on why God permits evil in this world.

The Our Lady, Saints & Key People in Catholicism videos this week will be on Saint Teresa of Avila, the great mystic and her writings on prayer.

The Catholic Family, Culture & Society videos this week will be on “being thankful to God” and the significant improvement this attitude has on our approach to life.

On week 6, the topics will include:

The Catholic Faith / Reflection  videos this week will be by Father Apostoli on the role of the Holy Spirit in respect of the missionary work of the Church.

The Our Lady, Saints & Key People in Catholicism videos this week will be on the life and times of Saint Teresa of Avila, the great mystic and Doctor of the Church.

The Catholic Family, Culture & Society videos this week will be a Q&A session with Fr. Robert Spitzer, SJ, founder of the Magis Center of Reason and Faith..

On week 7, the three topics will focus on presentations by Fr. Robert Spitzer SJ, an outstanding Jesuit philosopher and communicator of our time, and will include:

The Catholic Faith / Reflection  video this week will be by Fr. Spitzer on the role of the Holy Spirit in today’s world.

The second video this week will be by Fr. Spitzer on the nature of God’s love.

The Catholic Family, Culture & Society video this week will be a Q&A session by Fr. Spitzer on issues related to today’s civilization.
